Honor Thy Teacher 2015

Submit your donation now.

Dear Billerica Parents,

It is hard to believe that it is already April with only two months until the end of another school year.  May 4-8 is Teacher Appreciation Week, a time when the hard work of teachers across the country is celebrated.  However, every day of the school year, your children have benefitted from the exceptional Billerica teachers, administrators and staff to motivate, educate and inspire them to be the best they can be.

Please support their efforts and honor their dedication to our children by donating to the Fourth Annual “Honor Thy Teacher” Campaign.

Proceeds from this campaign will go directly to support the innovative grant program sponsored by the Billerica Partners for Education (BPE).   Over the last several years, the Partners have given over $220,000 to teachers in the Billerica Public Schools through competitive grants.

These grants directly benefit Billerica’s children with innovative programs spanning math, science, history, geography, and the arts—programs  that would not, under normal circumstances, be funded through the operating budget.

The suggested donation is $10 for each teacher or staff member, such as administrators, secretaries or custodians that you would like to honor.   The deadline for “Honor Thy Teacher” is Wednesday, April 29, 2015.

We will celebrate the honored Billerica Public Schools teachers, administrators and staff by:

  • Providing honored teachers and staff with a certificate
  • Listing all honored teachers and staff in the Billerica Minuteman
  • Sharing honoree names with the Superintendent and Principals as well as  the Billerica School Committee
  • Ensuring that your donation goes directly to support the innovative grant program sponsored by the BPE
  • Holding a ceremony to be held at the Annual Billerica Partners for Education Meeting on May 5, 2015.

The Billerica Partner’s for Education is a non-profit organization that raises funds to enhance the quality of education in Billerica’s public schools.

All contributions are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. Donors of $100 or more will be listed in our annual report recognizing cumulative gifts in our fiscal year of July1st to June 30.  Thank you.

Results from the 2015 Town-Wide Talent Show

We had a great day of talent at the Marshall Middle School!  We had singers and dancers, kung-fu and comedy, pianists and drummers and a baton twirler! We heard songs ranging from Saturday Night Fever to Uptown Funk, with some musicals, classical, current and classic music in between.

We had people helping from all over town; elementary, middle and high schoolers, parents from all the schools in town, and even the president of the Partners for Education.  We could not have pulled off such a great show without all of them, and without all the talented kids!   The top 6 acts in each age group are awarded a certificate and those acts, in no particular order, are:

Haidyn Schneider singing “Tomorrow”
Chloe Zalwango-Kisseka singing “The Prayer”
Adam Picariello-Heighes dancing to “Staying Alive”
Lindsey Mulkerin dancing to “Rio”
Keira MacKenzie  singing “The Star Spangled Banner”
Kyle McLaughlin singing “Waiting for Superman”
Fiona Rexford dancing an Irish Step Dance
(7 acts due to a tie score)

Miranda Hodgkins singing “Hero”
Kaia Sheehey singing “All of Me”
Anuva Agrawal dancing an Indian Bollywood dance
Wesley Pitchford dancing to “Smooth Criminal”
Alexis Efstratiou singing “Good Morning Baltimore”
Jack Haroutunian performing a magic act.

Thank you to all the participants and everyone who worked behind the scenes, to all the parents and people in the audience.  We raised some money for the Billerica Partners for Education, watched some excellent talent and had a lot of fun!  See you next year….. Taryn Gillis and Catherine Barbas, coordinators.
