Indian hyperspectral earth-imaging technology firm Pixxel won a grant under the Indian Air Force‘s iDEX Prime program to manufacture miniaturized multi-payload satellites, the company announced recently.

Pixxel will develop small satellites of up to 150 kg for electro-optical, infrared, synthetic aperture radar, and hyperspectral applications. The award was part of a SPARK grant program offered by the Indian government to enable Indian innovators and entrepreneurs to deliver technologically advanced solutions and propel deep-tech innovations in India.

“We are delighted to receive iDEX’s grant and utilize our expertise of building microsatellites in-house to manufacture satellites externally for the first time. This recognition highlights Pixxel’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of space exploration and innovation. We are grateful for the trust placed in us and excited to embark on this next phase of collaboration with the Indian government,” said Pixxel CEO Awais Ahmed, who recently discussed the company’s future in an interview with Via Satellite.

Financial details of the grant were not disclosed.
